Happy Sunflowers

Check out my new kitchen curtains. My friend Katie makes curtains, designs rooms, and generally just has a flair for anything creative. I decided that our kitchen needed a little pick-me-up, and there's nothing like sunflower patterned toile to pick me up.

Thanks, Katie, for the cheery addition to our house!

Nice to meet you

While I was feeding Anna yesterday, Holly walked into the kitchen with her baby. It was a little bear that she had swaddled in a blanket. She was talking in her high, sweet "mama" voice (surely that sounds just like me), and I couldn't help but laugh at her conversation with little bear.

"Here you go, it's bedtime now. Nice to meet you." The "nice to meet you" was said like one might say "everything's going to be okay" - in a slow, comforting voice. Then she said, "Oh, are you hungry? Here you go. It's nice to meet you..." She must have said "nice to meet you" 6 times to her bear.

The she looked at me and said, "Hi Mommy! It's nice to meet you."

I have no idea where this came from, but my best guess is that she's heard the phrase and is trying it out. So next time you see Holly, don't be alarmed if she greets you with "Nice to meet you."

Happy Birthday Mom

Yesterday was my sweet mom's birthday and the perfect time to stop for a minute and honor her.

My mom shows her love for her children in so many ways, and in so many ways is a wonderful model for me as I continue to figure out this parenting thing.

So thank you, Mom, for:

- always checking on us when the weather is bad
- dealing with years (and thousands of $$) of dance lessons for Leigh and me
- adoring my daughters and showering them with love
- showing us the importance of giving to others and being generous with our money
- loving Dad, and showing us what it means to respect our husbands
- loving my friends like they were our family
- always wanting to know the name and number where we will be. Even today.
- trusting me, and in that trust giving me freedom
- raising us in the Church - the beginning of a lifelong journey to knowing my Creator and Savior

This is just the tip of the iceberg - there are so many things I am thankful for. And I am very certain that I rarely, if ever, show my gratitude. So on your birthday (or at least the day after...), be blessed and know that you are loved and appreciated.

Twinkle Toes

So, she's got at least a few of my genes (and apparently Tom Cruise in Risky Business).

Things Anna Likes

Likes:

- Her sister. Holly is her number 1 favorite person in the world. The feeling isn't exactly mutual.

- Screaming/squealing at the top of her lungs. Anywhere. This is the number 1 reason why she's not Holly's favorite person in the world.

- Her jumperoo (thanks Aunt Boo and Uncle Drew!).

- Baby food. She can put down 2 jars at a time - not bad for a 7 1/2 month old.

- Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. Especially when sung to her by Holly.

- Her bed.

Not So Much:

- Her bottle. Hates taking the bottle lately. She only drinks if she's reclining in her bouncy seat (and by the size of her, I'm going to need to figure this one out real soon).

- Vacuum cleaners. Or food processors. Or hair dryers. You get the idea.

- Getting medicine. At this age, Holly loved her Tylenol (I think it was her first word). Anna's got a quick left jab, which makes giving medicine, cleaning ears, suctioning the nose a pretty tough feat.

- Sleeping in cars. Or anywhere but her bed.

- Pacifiers.
